Honey in India

Honey is considered sacred in Hinduism and other Vedic religions, whose various religious and philosophical concepts have had a major influence on western cultures. Honey is mentioned by name in the region’s holy books. The Rig-Veda, one of first known sacred books, contains a hymn about honey:

"Let every wind shower honey. Let the rivers and streams recreate honey. Let all our medicines turn to honey. Let the dawn and night turn into honey. Let the dark places become honey. Let this sky above, our source of healing, be full of honey. Let our trees be of honey. Let the sun be of honey. Let our cows give honey.”
