Balparmak Hand-in-Hand with Beekeepers for Quality Honey Production
Balparmak, the leading brand in Turkey’s packaged honey market, has been training beekeepers since 2004. This year the company carries on this tradition under the umbrella of the “Balparmak Hand-in-Hand with Beekeepers for Quality Honey Production” project. The goal of this project is to increase the quality of honey produced in Turkey. To this end, Balparmak’s Research and Development team work together with academics specializing in apiculture to offer professional training to beekeepers.
The aim of the project is to train beekeepers so that they get high quality and productive yields, as well as to create a system that can address and meet the needs of beekeepers as they arise. In this endeavor, Balparmak employs the expertise of the instructors at Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University and the Ula Beekeeping Vocational Academy.
The first step of the project focuses on improving the production process of pine honey, one of Turkey’s important and distinctive assets. The training pilot programs, which began in the Muğla region, have visited 14 villages so far. The visits directly reached more than 500 beekeepers, and enabled the random inspection of 15,000 hives. Beekeepers also received advice on how to achieve a better, healthier and more productive harvest.
The scope of this project includes plans to conduct various research and development studies and to make pine honey internationally known by presenting the results of these studies at national and international science symposiums.
